Amidst the lunchtime rush at The Grill, a beloved Manhattan restaurant, a series of events threaten to bring the kitchen to a crashing halt in Alonso Ruizpalacios’s gripping, dynamic adaptation of Arnold Wesker’s acclaimed stage play. While food orders flood in and pressure mounts to boiling point, the passionate relationship between chef Pedro (Raul Briones), a passionate dreamer, and waitress Julia (Academy Award nominee Rooney Mara), who is grappling with her own troubles, is starting to fray. But when missing money and shocking revelations cause things to spiral out of control, it’s not long before one of New York’s busiest kitchens is on the verge of imploding. La Cocina is a poignant and darkly comic tribute to the invisible heroes who fuel our culinary desires while fighting for a place in a world that often refuses to acknowledge their existence.
