JEAN-LUC GODARD: THE IMAGE BOOK (LE LIVRE D’IMAGE)

Director: Jean-Luc Godard

88 mins, 2018, France, Digital

SCREENING SUNDAY 29th MARCH

JLG’s final feature-length work, a stimulating essay on the history and power of images. Drawing on film clips, newsreels, paintings and literature, Godard reflects on war, colonialism, cinema and the Middle East, assembling a fractured audiovisual collage that resists easy interpretation. Sound and image are deliberately distorted, challenging habits of viewing and listening. Awarded a Special Palme d’Or at Cannes, the film exemplifies Godard’s late style: rigorous, abrasive and deeply poetic, inviting audiences to reconsider how images shape memory, politics and belief.
