JEAN-LUC GODARD: GOODBYE TO LANGUAGE (ADIEU AU LANGAGE)

Director: Jean-Luc Godard

69 mins, 2014, France, Digital 3D

SCREENING SATURDAY 28th MARCH

Goodbye to Language demonstrates JLG’s continued formal experimentation, well into his eighth decade, and sees him embrace voguish 3D technology in a typically idiosyncratic manner. The film is remarkable for its eclecticism and wilful provocation; a radical rethinking of cinematic norms that all but demands a response from its audience. Shot in startling, deliberately disorienting 3D, the unclassifiable work breaks narrative continuity to question how images create meaning. Both playful and confrontational, it challenges viewers to experience cinema as sensation and thought rather than story.
