JEAN-LUC GODARD: FILM SOCIALISME

Director: Jean-Luc Godard

102 mins, 2010, France-Switzerland, Digital

SCREENING TUESDAY 24th MARCH

The radical Film Socialisme sees JLG abandon conventional narrative entirely in favour of a provocative, intellectually stimulating, essayistic structure. Divided into three sections, the film travels from a Mediterranean cruise ship to Europe’s political and historical landscapes, and finally to a family-run garage. Through fractured images, sound, and famously unconventional subtitles, Godard interrogates democracy, capitalism, history, and the possibility of a shared language, offering a dense, challenging meditation on contemporary Europe and cinema itself.
