IRISH FOCUS: CROÍTHE RADACACHA

Director: CIARA HYLAND

70 mins, Ireland, 2023, Digital. F-Rated

Writer/director Ciara Hyland explores the personal lives of public figures, women of the Irish revolutionary period who enjoyed intimate relationships with fellow revolutionary women. Dr Kathleen Lynn and Madeleine ffrench-Mullen, Elizabeth O’Farrell and Julia Grenan, Helena Molony and Evelyn O’Brien, Nora O’Keefe and Margaret Skinnider were just some of the women who were deeply unconventional in their lives and in their politics, their feminism, their socialism and in their devotion to freedom and equality.

With contributions from Mary McAuliffe, Sonja Tiernan, Ailbhe Smyth and Ciara Ní É, this documentary expands our understanding of the revolutionary period, and confidently claims these women as inspiring forebears for today’s LGBT community.

This screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Ciara Hyland and Dr. Mary McAuliffe (UCD) hosted by Dr Sonja Tiernan (Modern Irish Historian). This documentary is supported by TG4 and Coimisiún na Meán.
