IFI TALKS: DR CONOR POWER – THE MUSIC OF JOHN WILLIAMS

The IFI’s new Saturday Serial strand started with the Indiana Jones Adventures and, beginning August 31st, will screen the Skywalker Saga. Both franchises feature some of the most celebrated music of composer John Williams, whose body of work includes many of the most popular and recognisable scores in cinema history, and who is second only to Walt Disney in terms of Oscar nominations. For the latest in our ongoing series of IFI Talks, we are delighted to welcome Dr Conor Power, who completed his doctoral thesis on Williams’s music. Dr Power has presented his research in Paris, New York, and across Ireland, and has lectured at Maynooth University, Oxford Brookes, and the University of Edinburgh. His next article, on musical nostalgia in the Star Wars sequels, will soon be published in the media/music journal Émergences.

Following his talk, Dr Power will also introduce the 20.15 screening of Stephen Spielberg’s Jaws (1975).
