A poignant Brazilian-Portuguese coming-of-age drama, Manas follows 13-year-old Marcielle, affectionately known as Tielle (portrayed by newcomer Jamilli Correa) as she navigates life in a riverside community on Marajó Island. Inspired by her older sister’s escape, Tielle harbours dreams of a different life. However, as she matures, she becomes increasingly aware of the deep-seated exploitation and abuse that pervade her community. Increasingly worried about her younger sister and the uncertain future they face, she decides to confront the oppressive system that controls her family and the women in their community.
