FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL: A PRIVATE LIFE Director: Rebecca Zlotowski 103 mins, France, 2025, Digital, Subtitled, F-Rated Book cinema tickets (VIE PRIVÉE) Lilian Steiner (Jodie Foster’s first major French-speaking role), a respected American psychiatrist living in Paris, is deeply troubled by the suspicious death of her patient Paula (Virginie Efira, Sibyl, In Bed with Victoria). Convinced Paula was murdered, she decides to investigate, opening a Pandora’s Box as she crosses all sorts of boundaries, unleashing guilt and doubt – could Lilian herself be responsible? Or is it Paula’s furious husband (Mathieu Amalric, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, The Grand Budapest Hotel), or her tense daughter? Zlotowski, together with writer Anne Berest, has crafted a sharp and delightful thriller revealing Lilian’s many psychological dimensions. The chemistry between Foster and Daniel Auteuil (who plays her ex-husband) is a pure delight.
