Death of a Superhero

Director: Ian Fitzgibbon

Germany/Ireland, 2011, Animation/Drama, 97 mins

Director Ian Fitzgibbon will introduce this film.

A new addition to the Comparative Study for 2016, this highly original drama is based on a novel by New Zealander, Anthony McCarten. Fifteen-yearold Donald, brilliantly played by Thomas Brodie- Sangster (Love Actually), possesses an extraordinary imagination and a talent for art. When he is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, Donald retreats into a fantasy world occupied by his alter ego comic book superhero, where he fights death as a caped crusader. Shot on location in Dublin, Donald’s real and imaginary worlds are intertwined in stunning animations.
