Adapted by David Mamet from his 1984 Pulitzer Prize-winning play (a riff on Miller’s Death of a Salesman), James Foley’s film depicts two days in the life of four real estate salesmen driven to extremes when a terrifying motivational speaker from head office announces that all but the top two salesmen will be fired in a week. With a brilliant cast (Al Pacino, Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey) clearly relishing Mamet’s chewy dialogue and verbal jousting matches, Glengarry Glen Ross remains a sobering account of the desperation of those at the bottom of the food chain.
