Mark (Sam Neill), a spy, has returned home to Cold War Berlin to find his wife Anna (Isabelle Adjani) demanding a divorce. As Mark descends into a spiral of obsessive jealousy and self-destruction, Anna’s behaviour becomes increasingly erratic and violent. Long difficult to see in its complete form, Andrzej Zulawski’s visceral masterpiece of psychological horror explores the disintegration of a marriage in delirious and surreal fashion.
