Guillermo del Toro’s highly imaginative debut, now presented in a luminous 4K restoration, is a unique twist on classic vampire lore. The story follows an elderly antiques dealer who discovers an ancient artifact in the form of a golden mechanical scarab beetle; the device grants eternal life, but also causes in the user an aversion to daylight and an unquenchable thirst for human blood.
