THE BIGGER PICTURE: HANDS ON A HARDBODY: THE DOCUMENTARY

As outgoing IFI Development Manager, visual artist and festival producer Emily Brennan has chosen this fascinating Texas-set documentary, about a competition in which the winner is the person who stands with their hand on the truck the longest. Over the course of this observational film, director Bindler lets us get to know the range of contestants who take on such a challenge, seeking the humanity in each individual, despite the weirdness of the scene.

Recognised by Quentin Tarantino as his favourite documentary, this unique collision of the consumerist psyche and the American dream has gained a cult status and even gone on to spawn a Tony-nominated musical adaptation.
