IRISH FOCUS: A GIRL CAN TOUCH THE SKY + Q&A

This film screened on the 28th of April 2024 and is now available to rent on IFI@Home and IFI International.

On a life-changing journey across India, Irish monk-turned-moviemaker Ravinol Chambers encounters collisions between traditional and progressive expectations for young women. Just as he begins to understand the barriers facing girls in education, he realizes that progress can only be made if young men also acknowledge gendered inequalities and if they too become involved in creating change. The articulate, hopeful voices of the young women in this feature documentary confirm their desire for access to all levels of education. The film also considers if education will ensure true equality, equipping young women with the tools to realise their intellectual potential or, are there further barriers to overcome?

The film will be followed by a Q&A with Ravinol Chambers and Tina Sharma Chambers, hosted by Sheila de Courcy.
