IFI FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL 2021: JANE BY CHARLOTTE Director: Charlotte Gainsbourg 86 mins, France, 2021, Digital, Subtitled, F-Rated Book cinema tickets Watch on Watch on IFI Home For her first experience behind the camera, celebrated actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg focuses on her relationship with her mother, the legendary Jane Birkin. From a concert in Tokyo in 2018 to October 2020, she follows her mother for almost three years, moving from her daily life in her Parisian flat and the family home in Brittany, creating a tender portrait that aspires to let the two women bond. With the help of a cinematographer, and sometimes using her own small camera, Charlotte engages her mother in conversation, and they gradually let down their defences, and create space for a new mother-daughter relationship to grow and heal. DOM Director’s note: Both director and subject – daughter and mother, are equally exposed in this caring, intimate exchange. The sharing of confidences strengthens their bond. Screening as part of the IFI French Film Festival, November 17 – 28. Director: Charlotte Gainsbourg 86 mins, France, 2021, Digital, Subtitled, F-Rated
