18 November 2025: The Irish Film Institute (IFI) is proud to announce IFI Kinopolis 2025 from Thursday 11 December to Sunday 14 December 2025. The IFI’s annual Polish film festival this year sees a diverse celebration of Polish cinema, which this year begins and ends with biopics of great artists.

The festival opens with Chopin, A Sonata in Paris, a stirring account of the life of composer Frédéric Chopin, one of Poland’s greatest artists. The screening will include a special introduction on Chopin from acclaimed pianist Hugh Tinney. At the other end of the festival, the closing film Franz, an intriguing depiction of author Franz Kafka, comes from one of Polish cinema’s greatest current practitioners, Agnieszka Holland.

Other highlights include a rare screening of The Saragossa Manuscript to mark the centenary of the birth of Wojciech Has, a distinctive and unique voice in the country’s history of the medium.

In the festival’s compelling contemporary offering, Wojciech Smarzowski, one of European cinema’s best-kept secrets, turns his fierce gaze on coercive control and domestic violence in his new gripping drama Home Sweet Home.

Artur Wyrzykowski’s feature debut This Is Not Happening offers an extremely tense and gripping portrayal of parental love even in the face of the most horrific of circumstances.

Katarzyna Priwieziencew’s deceptively simple film Beautiful! follows six women at different stages of their lives as each strives for fulfillment; it is a funny, touching, and emotionally rewarding piece.

As ever, this selection reflects the best of what has emerged from the country’s remarkable film industry over the last year, showcasing the most estimable talent in front of and behind the camera. We look forward to welcoming both Irish audiences and those of the Polish diaspora to enjoy this year’s festival.

Mr. Artur Michalski, The Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Republic of Poland in Ireland said:

Polish cinema is thriving and this year’s IFI programme proves it so well. I am delighted that yet again we bring to the Irish audience such engaging, thought provoking and visually stunning productions. Starting with a biopic on Fryderyk Chopin, through the epic Saragossa Manuscript and concluding with an unusual account of Franz Kafka, you simply cannot miss this year’s celebration of Polish cinema!

Kevin Coyne, IFI Cinema Programmer said:

It is always a pleasure to present the IFI Kinopolis programme to Irish and Polish audiences alike. This year’s event offers a wide range of films, from lavish biopics to a surrealist masterpiece, and sees esteemed figures of Polish cinema past and present return to IFI screens, including Agnieszka Holland, Wojciech Smarzowski, and Wojciech Has. The festival once again showcases all that is best in one of Europe’s most consistently excellent national cinemas.

The IFI would like to offer our sincere gratitude to Nikola Sękowska-Moroney, Cultural Affairs and Media Coordinator of the Embassy of Poland in Dublin, and to Agata Dzik, International Department Coordinator of the Pomeranian Film Foundation, for their invaluable assistance and support.
