Filmed largely in English, Hans-Christian Schmid’s political-legal thriller stars Kerry Fox as Hannah Maynard, a prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal in the Hague. Passionate about justice, Hannah doggedly pursues a young Bosnian woman (Anamaria Marinca) she believes to be a key witness when it comes to indicting a former Bosnian Serb commander accused of atrocities against Muslim civilians. But Kerry’s quest for justice may jeopardise the young woman’s new life in Germany and soon clashes with the new political pragmatism, as western diplomats work at bringing the former Yugoslavian states into the EU.

Schmid’s film is a sobering indictment of the more dubious practices of international justice.
