Highly-acclaimed Finnish filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki takes his trademark dead-pan humour to the French port town of Le Havre. Marcel, a shoe-polisher, risks everything to help a young Senegalese boy refugee gain safe passage to London to find his family. Marcel and his neighbours do their best to ensure the boy avoids a people-smuggling ring and the border police. This is a beautifully shot, simple story of kindness that touches on major questions of asylum and human rights.
