Dead Gay men and living lesbians

Director: Rosa von Praunheim

2008 Germany 85mins

As a result of the Holocaust and, later, of Aids, the German gay men’s community has sustained bitter losses. According to legendary filmmaker Rosa von Praunheim, lesbian women have now placed themselves at the forefront of the so-called queer movement. The women in this documentary, Berlin-based Turkish DJ Ipec, journalist Manuela, lesbian mothers Laura and Silke and actor Maren, all lead successful lives as out lesbians in a progressive world. The male protagonists on the other hand all belonged to a generation that experienced the Third Reich, pink triangles and Germany at its most repressive.
