BONES AND ALL

Director: Luca Guadagnino

131 mins, Italy-USA, 2022, Digital

From the director of Call Be My Your Name (2017) comes another tale of a young person searching for their identity and finding love along the way, albeit against a very different backdrop.

Maren (the excellent Taylor Russell) struggles with her compulsion for cannibalism, incidents of which have kept her on the move since early childhood. When her father abandons her on her 18th birthday, she sets out to find the mother she has never met. On the way, she meets fellow ‘eaters’ Sully (an extremely creepy Mark Rylance), and Lee (Timothée Chalamet), with whom she begins a relationship, the two indulging their tendencies before attempting a normal life and diet. The influence of Terrence Malick’s early films, particularly Badlands (1973), looms large as we follow the killer couple around the beautifully-shot Midwestern states in this romantic film of love and death.

There will be Open Captioned screenings at 18.00 on Monday 28th and 15.20 on Tuesday 29th.
