IFI SCHOOLS: A DATE FOR MAD MARY

Director: Darren Thornton

Ireland • 2016 • Drama • 82mins

This film screened 30th September 2017.

After a short spell in prison, ‘Mad’ Mary McArdle returns home to Drogheda, eager to reunite with best friend Charlene for whom she is about to act as maid of honour. Annoyed by Charlene’s assumption that she won’t have a date for the wedding, Mary joins a dating agency, embarking on a series of disastrous encounters before events take an unexpected turn. A brilliant addition to our Irish film category, this tough and tender story focuses on female relationships and a character’s transition from teen to adulthood
