Niall McCann’s energetic first feature Art Will Save the World celebrates forgotten singer-songwriter, novelist and artist, Luke Haines. Haines, one of the founding members of “The Auteurs”, is often described as one of the great English contemporary songwriters, a man who launched Britpop but who then disappeared into obscurity. Through his own wry commentaries, which are dark, unapologetic and very funny, and through observations from his contemporaries and friends including Jarvis Cocker, David Peace and Arthur Matthews, Art Will Save the World explores the work, legacy, battles and the future of this perennial outsider of Britpop and allows us to meet the forgotten man.
