Johnny T (Stuart Sinclair Blyth) finds his love of joyriding can be used to fulfil his dream of emigrating to Barcelona in this stylish 1990s feature. As his friends tire of his feud with Dublin madman Whacker (Gavin Kelty), they propose a dangerous, thrilling solution: an illegal race from Belfast to Dublin with a huge cash prize awaiting the winner. As all sorts quickly sign up the prize – and the risk – grows in a race that gets the attention of police, criminals, and even the military. Partly a Hollywood-style car-chase thriller, Accelerator is also a drama about teenagers whose interests – mostly joyriding, arcades, and films – are smartly observed.
