Director: PETER SOLLETT

103 minutes, U.S.A., 2015, Digital

This film was released 19th February 2016, and is no longer screening.

Julianne Moore stars in this true story about terminally ill New Jersey police officer Laurel Hester, whose 2005 legal battle to pass her pension benefits to her partner became a flashpoint for LGBT activism.

A tough cop on the way to making lieutenant, Hester hides her sexuality from her colleagues. Not even long-term policing partner and friend Dane (Michael Shannon) is aware of her dual life. Hester is forced to reevaluate her priorities when she meets Stacie (Ellen Page), a feisty young mechanic who sweeps her off her feet. They buy a house and a dog and settle down to a life together, but Hester’s diagnosis of stage IV lung cancer threatens their future. Enlisting the help of flamboyant activist Steven Goldstein (Steve Carell), Hester fights the county legislators – or freeholders – for her right to leave her pension benefits to Stacie.
