One of the key figures in fashion and haute couture, Yves Saint Laurent was just 21 when he was given the job of the head designer of the House of Christian Dior, a much coveted position that would be the platform from which he would start his own fashion house, create one of the world’s most recognisable and desirable clothes labels, and become arguably the most influential, revered and copied designer in the history of fashion.

Jalil Lespert’s handsome biopic features a number of Yves Saint Laurent’s famous creations, an attractive young cast led by rising star Pierre Niney as the title character, and reveals a story of how a shy young genius became an overnight sensation and fell in love, only to be confronted with creative and emotional crises when fame and romance become a dangerous combination.
