Welcome back to the regular bimonthly slot for our over 55s film club. Before we closed for refurbishment we promised to bring you the director, actor, senior citizen and icon that is Clint Eastwood in his recent box-office smash. Tickets for the Wild Strawberry screening cost e4 which includes a regular tea/coffee. Bookings can be made from November 1st through the box office on 01 679 3477.

As Walt Kowalski, a cantankerous and racist former car worker, Eastwood calls up the ghost of Dirty Harry, his mean, rule-breaking cop of the 1970s. Kowalski lives alone, swilling beer on his porch whilst spouting resentments at the outside world, including his neighbours, an Asian family of Hmong people. His rifle at the ready, Kowalski rears up at anything that might threaten his security or that of his prized 1972 car, the Ford Gran Torino of the title. Becoming involved with the troubles of his neighbours, he sets about defending them against attack. He doesn’t act out of any high ideals but more out of instinct, growling and snarling right up to the climax of this surprisingly life-affirming drama.
