The family drama gets a sharp and acerbic update in this touching, comic tale about the Rizzos, whose convoluted dynamic is built on a web of lies. When prison guard Vince discovers that inmate Tony is his son, he doesn’t let anyone know, even when Tony comes to stay while on probation. Instead he adds this to the other lie about playing poker – in fact he’s learning to act – while his wife (Julianna Margulies) presumes he’s having an affair. Meanwhile, their daughter and son guard their own guilty secrets. All this intrigue takes place in the gentle surrounds of wooden houses and boats on City Island, New York. Andy Garcia is terrific as Vince, pursuing his acting when all about him threatens to come crashing down under the weight of deception and coincidence in this truly modern family drama.
