The Witches

Director: Nicolas Roeg

USA • 1990 • COLOUR • 91 MIN

Lights Out! presents a Hallowe’en treat for the whole family. Join us before the film for pumpkin carving and face painting. Anyone who comes in costume gets in for free!
Adapted from Roald Dahl’s darkly comic tale, The Witches was brought to screen by director Nic Roeg (Performance, Don’t Look Now and The Man Who Fell To Earth) and Muppetmaster Jim Henson, who provided the special effects.
On vacation in England, young Luke and his grandmother have just checked into a hotel. Also on the premises is the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, an organisation that hides the fact that its members are really evil-minded, mask-wearing, child-hating witches! They have gathered to discuss a most fiendish plot: to turn all children into mice by feeding them poisonous chocolate. Discovering this, it is up to the Luke and his grandmother to stop them killing every child in England.
Angelica Huston shines as the Grand High Witch that the whole family will love to hate!
