Tex Avery started drawing comic strips when he was a teenager and, after a stint studying art at the prestigious Chicago Art Institute, he moved to California to learn the animation trade. By 1935, Avery was working for Warner Bros, where he created some of cinema’s most recognisable cartoon characters: Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd. Avery also developed the personality of Bugs Bunny into the rabbit we know and love today. During this time at Warners, Avery created a style of animation that broke the mold of strict realism established by Walt Disney. When he moved to MGM in 1941, Avery found a new creative freedom, concentrating less on lasting characters and more on slapstick gags and humorous situations that had his audiences rolling in the aisles with laughter. This progamme includes such classics as A Wild Hare, Northwest Hounded Police, The Heckling Hare, The Cat That Hated People and Dumb-Hounded.
