Talk StraightThe World of Rural Queers Director: Germany| 2003 Subtitles. Colour. 100 mins. Book cinema tickets Richard, Stefan, Hartmut and Uwe are all gay men living in rural Germany. Their experience is very different from that of gay men in the more tolerant cities, where being gay in no big deal anymore. Stuck among the heteros, they put up with abuse or smug tolerance from their neighbours in the church choir or at the local shop or pub, and escape to the city or to Thailand for an occasional breath of fresh air. Jochen Hick’s stunning documentary examines their world by exposing their hetero neighbours in an often comic yet ultimately sobering film which will have huge resonance for rural queers in Ireland. We are delighted to welcome Jochen Hick to introduce his film. Director: Germany| 2003 Subtitles. Colour. 100 mins.
