At the age of ten, after discovering his father’s military fifles in his home, Chico Colvard accidentally shot one of his sisters in the leg. The accident would have far-reaching and unexpected consequences – believing she would die from her injuries, his sister revealed she and her two sisters had suffered years of extreme sexual abuse at their father’s hands. Decades later, Colvard, having cut off contact with his father for fifteen years, attended a Thanksgiving celebration where he was shocked to see his father warmly welcomed by a number of adoring family members, his sisters and friends. Unable to reconcile his sisters’ behaviour with the appalling abuse they suffered, Colvard decided to make this highly personal and unforgettable film.
