Shorts (Programme Two)

Director: Assorted Directors

80 min.

Themes of isolation, externalised control and the loss of individual identity in a technologically dominated world feature prominently in the films of this second programme of shorts. Filmmakers from four continents use digital animation, documentary techniques and pithy comedy to address cultural power struggles and individual loneliness across the planet. In Fallen Art, Poland’s Tomek Baginski presents a grisly metaphor for the human tragedy of despotic regimes. More often than not, though, positive messages about self-awareness and self-confidence emerge from the sometimes bleak scenarios of these outstanding short films.
