Run & Jump

Director: Steph Green

Struggling to cope, financially and emotionally, with her husband’s life-altering, embattled Kerry woman Vanetia (Maxine Peake) is thrown a lifeline when American neurologist Ted (Will Forte) pays for the chance to move in with the family and monitor the recovering Conor (Edward McLiam). Living in a fractured house Ted finds himself fulfilling the roles Conor and his changed mental state cannot, looking out for the son struggling with his sexuality and providing friendship to Vanetia as Conor fails to reconnect with his family. Facing into numerous crises, including the death of Conor’s father and Lenny’s depression, Vanetia and Ted find themselves faced with choices they would rather never have. Taking a realistic approach to complex personal problems Run & Jump avoids theatrics, allowing little moments of connection and understanding space to breath in an understated depiction of people working through sensitive emotional tangles.
