Professor Tim

Director: Henry Cass

Ireland| 1957. Black and white. 57 min.

A whimsical comedy in the stage Irish tradition, Professor Tim served as the pilot for a series of Abbey plays filmed at Ardmore Studios from 1958. Based on the 1925 play by George Shiels, it stars Seamus Kavanagh as the self-styled Professor Tim, who returns to his home in Ballykennedy to find the community unsettled by the forthcoming auction of a once-wealthy local estate. Misunderstandings about love and property abound, but help is at hand. This film was for many years feared lost, but the Irish Film Archive identified a print in the U.K.’s National Film and Television Archive and is pleased to present it to an Irish audience for the first time in decades.
