The Slovenian Embassy is bringing the multi-media group New Slovenian Arts (Neue Slowenisches Kunst, or NSK) to Dublin in May. To mark the occasion, we’re pleased to show Michael Benson’s riveting look at the work of NSK. An American journalist who lived in the region during Slovenia’s transition to independence, Benson skilfully interweaves archival material and interviews with NSK’s leaders—and their critics—accompanied by illustrations of the group’s wideranging artistic endeavours. His award-winning film makes for a sharply focused study of the Yugoslav conflict and the ongoing trauma experienced by generations of Eastern Europeans raised in totalitarian states.
