OURSELVES ALONE + JOHN HILL

Director: BRIAN DESMOND HURST

U.K. • 1936 • BLACK AND WHITE • 70 MIN

JOHN HILL INTRODUCES A SCREENING OF ‘OURSELVES ALONE’ AND LAUNCHES THE PUBLICATION OF HIS NEW BOOK ON CINEMA AND NORTHERN IRELAND.
Irish-born director Brian Desmond Hurst worked with John Ford in Hollywood before forging a career in Britain. Of his many Irish-set films, Ourselves Alone is perhaps the most interesting. A War of Independence drama, it tells of an RIC inspector who takes responsibility for the killing of an IRA leader to allow the real killer, an English army officer, to pursue a relationship with the victim’s sister. okonline.gif width=350 height=50 border=0>
