ON THE SLY/Pas de Loup

Director: Olivier Ringer

77 mins • Belgium/France • 201

Six-year-old Cathy is bored spending weekends at her parents’ country house so when she gets some magic seeds to plant, she wants to stay and watch them grow. Hiding as her parents leave, she then realises that they are worried about her. But afraid she’ll be punished, she heads deeper into the forest where she forages for food and avoids wild animals… An amazing performance, warmth and humour in this gem of a film. In French with English subtitles read aloud by an experienced reader. AGE 7+

The movie was a bit freaky at the start but then it got interesting. I found it pretty sad because the parents ignored her a lot. I found this very depressing. But then I found it very cleverly made. I thought the parents were a bit mean and stupid. It was a tiny bit funny because of her dance. One thing I did find good was she was very determined. I thought it would be scary for young people. So the overall rating is 7 out of 10. Age rating PG.

I liked the film, it was sad, scary and funny. It’s about a girl who runs away, she is funny and brave. I don’t usually watch this kind of film, it’s hard to read subtitles (my dad read them out for me). It’s for age 7, 8, 9, 10+ and I’d recommend it to my friends.
