NIGHT OF THE CREEPS Director: Fred Dekker USA 1986 COLOUR/ B/W DOLBY STEREO 88 MIN Book cinema tickets We’re really excited about this one: a rare and absolutely unmissable outing for one of the great comedy-horror flicks of the 1980s. Written and directed by the great Fred (The Monster Squad) Dekker, Night of the Creeps is one of Horrorthon’s desert island movies, a loving ’50s B-movie homage-cum-hysterical alienbrain-parasite-turns-frat-kids-into-killer-zombies flick that kills us every time. The real showstopper has to be genre legend Tom (Thrill Me) Atkins’ unforgettable turn as the greatest deadpan hard-boiled cop in cinematic history: ‘I got good news and bad news, girls. The good news is your dates are here.’ ‘What’s the bad news?’ ‘They’re dead.’ Creeps adeptly juggles yuks and yucks with a panache that makes you wish Dekker would make another movie. Night of the Creeps is currently unavailable on DVD, which makes this screening its first Irish cinema outing ever all the more essential.
