NIGHT OF THE CREEPS

Director: Fred Dekker

USA • 1986 • COLOUR/ B/W • DOLBY STEREO • 88 MIN

We’re really excited about this one: a rare and absolutely unmissable outing for one of the great comedy-horror flicks of the 1980s. Written and directed by the great Fred (The Monster Squad) Dekker, Night of the Creeps is one of Horrorthon’s desert island movies, a loving ’50s B-movie homage-cum-hysterical alienbrain-parasite-turns-frat-kids-into-killer-zombies flick that kills us every time. The real showstopper has to be genre legend Tom (Thrill Me) Atkins’ unforgettable turn as the greatest deadpan hard-boiled cop in cinematic history: ‘I got good news and bad news, girls. The good news is your dates are here.’ ‘What’s the bad news?’ ‘They’re dead.’ Creeps adeptly juggles yuks and yucks with a panache that makes you wish Dekker would make another movie. Night of the Creeps is currently unavailable on DVD, which makes this screening — its first Irish cinema outing ever — all the more essential.
