NIE KlAM, KOCHANLE

Director: PIOTR WERESNIAK

POLAND • 2008 • SUBTITLED • COLOUR • DOLBY DIGITAL STEREO • 105 MIN

This sweet romantic comedy from director Piotr Weresniak has been a smash hit at the Polish box-office. The central character, Marcin (Piotr Adamczyk), is a bon vivant and notorious liar from Krakow who falls into hard times financially. his only way to return to his former lifestyle is to inherit the fortune of his rich aunt nela (the wonderful Beata tyszkiewicz). the trouble is that nela has imposed one crucial condition on Marcin’s inheritance: the committed bachelor must marry before accessing the money. Looking to find a fiancee, Marcin sets his sights on Ania (Marta Zmuda trzebiatowska), a seemingly innocent and romantic young woman who isn’t looking for a playboy as her long-term partner. Director Weresniak is an experienced hand at romantic comedies and knows what his audience wants. The plot of Nie klam, kochanie is familiar enough, but the sharp dialogue sets it apart. the performances are also very good.
