New Approaches to teaching poetry

On a sleepy Italian island in 1952 postman Mario Ruoppolo (Massimo Troisi) finds the courage to engage poet Pablo Neruda in a conversation about writing. This marks the beginning of an unusual friendship, with Mario listening to Neruda’s poetic ideas, and the poet teaching Mario about poetry and its relationship to life.
In association with Poetry Ireland we are offering two poetry workshops in March. These will be facilitated by poet Marco Sonzogni, who is currently Faculty Fellow in Italian at UCD. He has edited Or volge l’anno. An Anthology of Irish Poets Responding to Leopardi (Dedalus Press, 1998) and is the editor of Translation Ireland.
New Approaches to Teaching Poetry will provide participants with fresh approaches to teaching poetry, using Il Postino and poems by Pablo Neruda as well as poems from the Leaving Cert syllabus.
Venue: IFI Meeting Room 3 March 6 – 9pm. Cost: €10.
