Irish Film Institute -Meredith Monk

Meredith Monk

In collaboration with Irish Modern Dance, the IFC is showing two programmes of films by the artist Meredith Monk, a composer, choreographer, director, filmmaker, singer and dancer. Her work spans three decades and has made her an extremely influential voice in many art forms. In addition to her own groundbreaking films, her music has been heard in Jean-Luc Godard’s La Nouvelle Vague and the Coen brothers’ The Big Lebowski. Programme One (October 28) will include Children, Ball Bearing, Quarry and Ellis Island. Ellis Island presents a haunting vision of the immigrant experience and of America at the turn of the last century. Programme Two (October 29) will include Book of Days, an examination of how the concerns of historical figures (war, plague, fear of apocalypse) resonate with those of the modern world (racial and religious conflicts, Aids, fear of nuclear annihilation). Meredith Monk will also be giving a concert on October 30 at SFX City Theatre. For further details please telephone (01) 855 4673.
