THIS WICKEDLY SATIRICAL COMEDY TELLS OF A CHILDLESS COUPLE WHO ACQUIRE A BABY FROM A SOMEWHAT UNUSUAL SOURCE.
Mr Horak digs up a tree root that vaguely resembles a baby, trims and presents it to his wife. Much to his dismay, Mrs Horak proves only too willing to treat it as a real child, changing its nappies and powdering its bottom. As the rapidly growing Otik develops a voracious and deadly appetite, the family cat, the postman and a visiting social worker mysteriously disappear. A precocious girl who lives next door begins to notice parallels between the strange events and the character of Otesanek in one of K. J. Erben’s classic fairytales. Her readings from the book begin to anticipate episodes in the film as she sets out to protect Otik from the consequences of his actions.
