LA FILLE COUPEE EN DEUX

Director: CLAUDE CHABROL

FRANCE-GERMANY • 2007 • SUBTITLED • COLOUR • DOLBY DIGITAL STEREO • 35MM • 114 MIN

As part of the Francophonie Week, the IFI, in collaboration with the Cultural Service of the Embassy of France in Ireland, is pleased to present a preview of Claude Chabrol’s latest film, La Fille coupee en deux (A Girl Cut in Two).
It’s cynical business as usual for Claude Chabrol, who offers plentiful style and psychological finesse in his latest jaundiced and sophisticated entertainment. The story of a young woman (Ludivine Sagnier) caught between two highly unsuitable admirers, La Fille coupee en deux has the typical trappings of a Chabrol thriller, although it would be more accurate to call this a melodrama of manners with a dark streak of social satire. With language and mannerisms that are laugh-out-loud funny, this Lyon-set tale of a local TV weather girl who is simultaneously pursued by two very different men eviscerates the non-charm of the bourgeoisie. It’s a pleasantly disturbing, nominally voyeuristic romp in the territory Chabrol knows best.
