JDIFF: BUILD SOMETHING MODERN

Director: PAUL ROWLEY & NICKY GOGAN

70 minutes| Ireland| 2011| Colour

Build Something Modern tells the story of a hidden canon of Irish architecture – groundbreaking young architects who pushed the boundaries of Irish design, with surprisingly little recognition at home. From the 1950s to the 1970s, adventurous architects, including Sean Rothery, Richard Hurley and Gerald Fay, travelled to Africa and designed buildings there. Other Irish architects, without leaving Ireland, also designed modern buildings in Africa but, remarkably, never got to see them. This is a touching film about people and their special relationship with their creations.

Paul Rowley and Nicky Gogan will attend the screening.
