IRELAND ON SUNDAY: OUR WONDERFUL HOME

Director: IVAN KAVANAGH

IRELAND • 2008 • COLOUR • DIGITAL VIDEO • 80 MIN

Ireland on Sunday, the exciting monthly showcase for new Irish fiction and documentary films, continues with Our Wonderful Home.
This extreme contemporary fable tells the story of Fred, an anxiety-ridden businessman, his dissatisfied wife Fiona and their manipulative teenage daughter, Emma. They all have secrets — Fred’s financial worries, Fiona’s affair, Emma’s drug- taking and mercenary sexual exploits. When Emma’s demands for a new car for her 18th birthday are refused she goes to extreme lengths to get what she wants, making a decision that will ultimately change all their lives forever.

In his first theatrical feature, which was made with Irish Film Board support, Ivan Kavanagh revisits territory explored in his earlier works. Here he creates a darkly claustrophobic world of profound dysfunction with great skill and assurance, drawing finely nuanced and extraordinarily naturalistic performances from the cast.

We are delighted to welcome Ivan Kavanagh for a post-screening Q&A.
