Ireland on Sunday is our monthly showcase for new Irish Film.

Fresh from its theatrical premiere at the Corona Cork Film Festival is Andrew Gallimore’s dramatic investigation into the true story behind the epic world featherweight title match between Barry McGuigan and Panamanian Eusebio Pedroza which took place in the open air at Loftus Road, home of QPR football club in West London, in 1985. There were 25,000 Irish spectators at the contest with a further 20 million viewers watching on television throughout Ireland and the U.K., and it was the BBC’s largest single viewing figure of the year.

The documentary, filmed in New York, Panama City, London, Dublin and Belfast, has McGuigan centre stage with a supporting cast (including Phil Coulter, Hugh McIlvanney, Irvine Welsh and Jim Sheridan) revealing the drama that played out behind the scenes.

Director Andrew Gallimore and producer Morgan Bushe will participate in a post-screening Q&A.
