IRELAND ON SUNDAY: ART WILL SAVE THE WORLD

Director: NIALL MCCANN

70 minutes, 2012, Colour, Digi-beta

Ireland on Sunday is our monthly showcase for new Irish film.

The director, Dundalk-born Niall McCann, will participate in a post-screening Q&A.

Niall McCann’s energetic first feature Art Will Save the World celebrates singer-songwriter, novelist and artist, Luke Haines.

Haines, one of the founding members of The Auteurs, is often described as one of the great English contemporary songwriters, a man who launched Britpop but who then disappeared from public view. Through his own wry commentaries which are dark, unapologetic and very funny, and through observations from his contemporaries and friends including Jarvis Cocker, David Peace and Arthur Matthews, Art Will Save the World explores the work, legacy, battles and the future of this perennial outsider of Britpop; a film for the artist in all of us.
