This gentle film makes an interesting and challenging new addition to the Comparative Study. Set in 1952 on a small Italian island where nothing much happens, the arrival of renowned Chilean poet Pablo Neruda (Philippe Noiret) creates something of a stir. Neruda has been exiled from his homeland and needs a place to stay. His fame is such that he receives letters from all over the world, and the island needs a special postman to deliver his mail.
