IFI FAMILY: WILLOW AND WIND (BEED-O BAAD)

Director: Mohammad-Ali Talebi

81 minutes, Iran-Japan, 2000, English Subtitles, Recommended Age 9+

This wonderful and occasionally heart-stopping film from Iranian Mohammad-Ali Talebi was one of those featured in director Mark Cousins’ recent documentary, A Story of Children and Film. As a filmmaker, Talebi has directed many films for and about children, usually focusing on a single child embroiled in an adventure.

In this one, a boy has broken a school window so he is sent off to get a replacement pane of glass. Watching the film, you follow each step of his treacherous journey back to school, trying to keep the piece of glass safe. Hold your breath and gasp as he overcomes all kinds of obstacles to reach his goal.
