IFI FAMILY: WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

Director: spike jonze

101 minutes, 2009, U.S.A., Fantasy/Drama, PG

One of the most beloved children’s books by the late author Maurice Sendak is adapted for this gorgeous film, through a collaboration between the writer, director Spike Jonze and writer Dave Eggars.

The film tells the story of Max, an energetic and sensitive boy who feels that no one at home understands him. After a row with his sister, he escapes and creates an imaginary world filled with fierce creatures who crown him as their ruler. The mysterious and strange creatures have emotions as wild and unpredictable as their actions and he feels at home among them.

The filmmakers combine a real-live boy with the imaginary creatures and in doing so, create memorable and fantastic landscapes that are faithful to Sendak’s world. This is a classic story about childhood and the places we go to figure out the world we live in.
